Mary Kay Representative's.... Today's Experience

So today while shopping I was approached my a Mary Kay rep who told me her and her group were going a scavenger hunt and asked that if I fell into one of the categories written on a card could I please sign on the space. So trying to be helpful I did just that and signed under a category that best matched me. She then said that because I had helped her she would like to give me a sample of her skin care to try and then asked me questions about my skin. Next she asked if she could call me tomorrow to ask about the skin care. I told her that it wasn't a good time as I am planning for an event and would just not be available. She then grabbed the sample she has just given me and walked away.

Now I have never used Mary Kay products; therefore I have never had to deal with another representative in the past and this encounter has left me with a horrible feeling about the company. I have heard such great things about the products and was actually searching a while ago online to find a rep in the area. Being a makeup artist I have clients who often ask my opinion on skin care etc and I could have been a great resource for this rep. I know not to judge by just one person, but I just had to share this experience as it really did upset me giving this women 5 minutes of my time and I really didn't have time to give only to be given a sample and have it taken from my hands!

I will of course still try to find a rep in my area I can speak with about products I am interested in. Again I have heard some really great things about many products that Mary Kay carries and would love to try some things out. I just wonder how many other women today were left to feel as I did while they shopped but will not give Mary Kay another chance?!

If you use Mary Kay or are a rep yourself please let me know in the comments how you feel about my experience today. Was it rare or something you have experienced yourself?

I'd say it's rare! Some people are just looking for business and that's it. The "scavenger hunt" is something we use to talk to new people as well. I'd give them another chance. I know a great lady that lives on the Oshawa/Courtice border if you want her number. She is so patient, friendly and really knows her stuff, plus she usually has items in stock so she is so quick at delivering.

@ Allison I would love to give them another chance for sure! I would also love the contact information! I know that sometimes it is just one bad egg. I just was left feeling so upset when she could see that me waiting with the stroller and missing the elevator a couple of times while I tried to help her out couldn't leave me with the sample to take home with no pressure.

Again more then happy to talk to a great rep!!

I really hate pushy people and hate people trying to quilt me into buying something. I was at a bridal fair about two years ago and met my Mary Kay lady at her booth. She gave me some samples and her card and said that since I wasn't sure if I wanted to be contacted that I should feel free to contact her if I felt comfortable. I did and she has been the most pleasant person to work with. I don't ever feel pressured and if she doesn't know an answer to a question I have, she's honest about it. That's horrible that you had to experience that nasty lady. In my experience, I don't think all MK representatives are like that and I've enjoyed their products.

Nancy -- This is Rhonda Shasteen, I'm the Chief Marketing Officer at Mary Kay Inc. I'm so saddened by your experience! I am glad to know that outside this incident that you have heard great things about our products and are willing to give us another chance. There are a great many Independent Beauty Consultants who will put your needs first and provide you with Golden Rule customer service. Have a great day, and thanks again for the second chance.
