Lippies... What is Your Favourite Kind???

It's amazing now many types of lip products are on the market now! It seems every season there are new products and textures coming onto the market and sometimes it feels overwhelming! When it comes down to it there are really 3 main types of products lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip treatments/balms.

Now before you tell me I know that at this point there are other categories such as stains but for someone just starting with lip products I think this is a safe place to start. Once you get these down you will note there are dozens of sub-catergoies to these with varying opaqueness, finishes and textures.

Lipstick defined by dictionary is a small stick of waxy lip coloring enclosed in a cylindrical case or a small stick of cosmetic paste, set in a case, for coloring the lips. Lipstick is a classic that has been around for as long as we can remember usually thought of as opaque (although these days that is not always the case) and is a fairly long wearing option.

Lipgloss is defined as a transparent, sometimes colored cosmetic ointment applied to the lips as a moisturizer and to give a shiny appearance or a cosmetic that gives shine or gloss to the lips. Lip gloss has quickly become a staple in every beauty junkies makeup bag and comes in so many variations the options seem limitless.

Lip treatments/balms are simply a balm applied to the lips by definition but truly this category is something that is diverse and meets the needs of people from all walks of life. There are tinted, unt-inted,  shiny and matte but most importantly they include ingredients that sooth, moisturizer and improve the texture of the skin of your lips!

So many products to explore its amazing! What is your favourite category of lip product??

Cover FX Mint Glaze

A few months ago I was so lucky to be invited to the first ever blogger event by Cover FX! I was impressed when I learned the companies history and felt so lucky to have a chance to try some of the products Cover FX offers. My favourite quickly became Mint Glaze, Cover FX's refreshing and protective lip product.

I have chronic dry lips for which I have tried pretty much everything available on the market. I have several products I have grown to love, and Mint Glaze is right up there with my favourites! This product gives you long lasting softness, and is a great primer for your lip colour. The mint in this product is completely apparent but not overwhelming at all! The texture is thick without being heavy coating your lips with a lasting layer of protection and softness.

Lee Graff says this of Mint Glaze in her Med FX blog, 'For daily year round protection, Mint Glaze FX with SPF 15 is your perfect fortifying lip treat-mint primer. It contains restorative peptides and protective vitamins. A treatment glazed balm that soothes dry lips and is a perfect primer under other lip products. Use 3 times daily and at night for maximum benefits. Mint Glaze FX is truly a lip saver!'.

If you are looking for a great lip product Cover FX offers an amazing product in Mint Glaze!

Annabelle Minerals and Lip Plumping Gloss

You all know how much I support the Annabelle cosmetics line. I have been using their products for years now and they have always been a staple for me. I was so excited when I was sent some goodies from the Mineral Collection as well as 2 shades of the Lip Plumping Gloss to try out.

I will start with my thoughts on the mineral collections. I was sent a foundation, blush as well as bronzer to try. I first used the blush and bronzer after getting my package. The blush was a beautiful pink colour which I really think is a tone that suits most of the population. I really liked this blush as it wasn't as shimmery as many mineral blushes can tend to be. It blended into the skin beautifully and such a little goes so far that this blush will last you forever!

The bronzer was a win for me as well. It comes in one shade and it worked beautifully on my pale skin. I have also used it on a client with my darker skin then me and it also worked well on her giving her a radiant glow without a glittery appearance. Again a little goes a long way with this product so the key is really starting with very little product.

The foundation is said to be 'a super light foundation that provides just the right amount of coverage. Its natural and pure formulation lets skin breathe'. This foundation is much lighter then other mineral foundations on the market, but it does still give a reasonable coverage. If you have a lot of skin issues such as acne, this may not be enough coverage for you, but for the average women who's skin has minimal discolouration to cover, I really think this is a great option.

Lastly is the Lip Plumping Gloss, which I received in Cherryoke and Sweet Tweet. Now it did take me a little while to get the knack of getting the gloss to come out of the tube (no idea what my issue was... haha) but once I did I really liked these glosses. Sweet Tweet is my fave as I love light pink shades of gloss and I simply love the way it looks on the lips. This gloss is very moisturizing which really did make my lips appear fuller. My lips are extremely dry so the moisture gives a fuller appearance for sure.

I really liked all of the products so again Annabelle did not disappoint!! If you love this line just as I do, be sure to check out these new additions next time you are shopping!

Vasanti Cosmetics Spring 2010 Collection

I was so lucky to be sent a selection from Canadian cosmetic company Vasanti to try a few weeks ago. These were items from the Spring 2010 collection and I was so impressed with the colours when they arrived. I was sent an eye shadow palette in The Hamptons, a cheek colour in Swiss Alps and two lipstick shades Sweden and Denmark

The shadow palette was the first thing that I decided to play with once I opened the box. The Hamptons includes 5 colours; Soft Neutral Beige, Soft Peachy Pink, Neutral Deep Brow,.Periwinkle Grey and Intense Rich Navy. All the shades have a soft shimmer to them that is very subtle not overpowering. I think this is a great palette for those who like natural shades but like to punch it up now and then with the addition of the navy blue. To me this palette also screamed bridal, so it would be a great one for brides who will be taking on the task of doing their own makeup, especially those destination brides!

The cheek colour was the next item I started to test out. Swiss Alps is a said on the website to be a plum but to me in person it was a warm pink with a very nice glow to it. I think this is a great spring blush as it gives a great highlight to the cheek and will compliment the skin as it begins to get a little more sun. the texture was very nice and a little goes a long way so be sure to use a gentle hand when applying.

The two lipsticks were the last thing I tested as I really am a lipgloss girl most days! First on was Sweden as I am a sucker for a soft beige pink. Again when I tried this one I immediately thought bridal. It would look beautiful on so many skin tones and would come off great in photos. This one is very much my style and I think on those lipstick says I will get a lot of use out of this shade! Next was Denmark a rich cranberry shade. Now this one put me a little out of my comfort zone, I love reds, but often do not wear deep pinks as I feel they just don't suit me. I did however use this colour on a client with a darker tone to her skin and I absolutely  loved it! This colour was amazing on her skin tone and it finished her makeup look beautifully. Both lipsticks had a great creamy formula that was rich and moisturizing that I very much enjoyed using.

I very much enjoyed trying these products for the first time, and thought quality of everything I tried was wonderful. I look forward to trying more Vasanti products in the future!

Besame Lip Glaze and Cashmere Powder

As I have told you all before I have a love for Besame cosmetics. I have reviewed their lipsticks in the past and absolutely love everything about them. This is why I was so excited when I was sent Besame's Lip Glaze and Cashmere Powder to try. I had been wanting to try the powder for a long time so I couldn't wait for the package to arrive.

For those of you who have not heard of Besame before, this brand is very vintage inspired in everything from the product colours to the beautiful packing that the product comes in. Besame's products are elegant and a complete delight to work with.

The first product I want to talk about is the Lip Glaze. I was sent Cotton Candy to try which as the name implies is a light candy pink colour. This glaze is a vitamin, collagen and peptide enriched formula that really did leave my lips feeling softer after each use. This glaze is a thick formulation and is sort of sticky, but really this is something as I have stated before that I like in gloss. I like the way it clings to the lips for long wear. This glaze also has a vanilla fragrance that I really like and is not overwhelming. I find the texture similar to MAC but the vanilla fragrance is a little different then the one you would find in MAC glosses. I really liked the pink shade and this glaze also comes in in 4 other shades that I know I will end up collecting over time.

Now on the the Cashmere Powder which I was so excited to receive. Now I will be honest I was a little taken back by the size when it arrived. It is a petite package, but this little compact holds an wonderful product. What cannot be ignored is how beautiful this product is both in ingredients in appearance. This powder is paraben-free and is enriched with anti-aging vitamin C and protects from the sun with natural zinc and titanium dioxide. I think that is a lot of great stuff packed into a little compact to say the least. This powder did not cake on the skin or leave a look of powder. I can touch up all day with this product with out powder overload on the skin! As for the packaging well a picture is worth a thousand words, this gold and red compact is something you would be proud to to take out and touch up with at any venue and the compact will fit into the smallest of evening bags for that big night on the town.

Owner Gabriela Hernandez is working on a book that I can't wait to read once it arrives in stores! This woman puts a lot of effort into all aspects of her products and it definitely shows!

Stay tuned in the coming days as Gabriela has graciously agreed to have Besame be a part of an exciting contest I am having. I can't wait to share this exciting contest information with you very soon!

Great Lipstick Shades for Valentines Day!

Valentine's day is just one of those times a year where you want to look your best for that special someone! Lipstick can send out the signal that you are ready for romance!

Lipstick was first used to make women look more fertile and therefore attractive to the male of our species. When women are fertile or aroused their lips become flushed, which is what the first lipsticks were meant to mimic.

We have moved on since those days venturing into colours that really just mean we like to play with colour. With nude the look that many women want today it totally goes again the original purpose for adding colour to the lips!

Here are a few of my favourite lippies, great for completing that Valentines look! There is something for you here, whether you want to use a romantic red or a coy nude!

Besame Cosmetics in either Cherry Red, or Merlot.

MAC Russian Red

Gosh Darling

MAC Myth

My favorite gloss is Sally Hansen Lip Inflation in either Sheer Blush or Sheer Pink!

What colour are you planning on wearing this Valentines Day??

L'Oreal H.I.P. Color Presso Lip Gloss

I am always searching for new products and recently I came upon some of the new offerings from H.I.P. I really wanted to examine these products closer due to the unique packaging... I am a sucker for cool packaging!

Color Presso lip gloss which comes in 10 duo's for you to choose from. I really liked that you get two glosses for the price of one. All of the glosses are quite sheer, very shiny and have very little stickiness. I really liked they way these glosses looked on and the colour combinations are very well done to maximize the combinations you can create when you mix them.

The thing I didn't like is the thing that drew me in to check this product out... the packaging. I found it sort of a pain to use the glosses, taking them in and out! I know it's a small thing and something that probably wouldn't bother most of you, but I just often was ease when I'm on the go and I found this a little difficult.

Overall though these glosses are a good buy and I would definitely check it out!

Gosh Darling Lipstick... Do You Love It??

Over the holiday's I picked up Gosh's lipstick in Darling. I just had to pick it up when Beautymarked19 said in one of her YouTube video's that it was a great nude colour. My favorite for years has been MAC's Myth and I really didn't think I would find anything I liked as much, but I may have found something I like even better!

This lipstick retails for $15 CAD so it is not a real savings over MAC but for many people Gosh (which is carried at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada) is easier to find!  I decided to finally pick this up when I had a chance to swatch it in store and liked the consistency, which is something that is important to me and my dry lips.

Darling is a beautiful nude because it was a slight pink undertone which makes it appear more natural until many other nudes which can give a very artificial appearance due to their beige almost grey hue! You know what I mean, when you see that girl who's lips look like she those of someone from a zombie movie, not a beauty page!

The texture is great as well because it is creamy, while still being thick enough to be long wearing. This lipstick also has a very nice fragrance, slight vanilla but not at all overwhelming! Darling is one of the few nudes that looks good on my skin, and has replaced Myth as my go to for a perfect nude lip.

I am so impressed with the whole Gosh line and if you read this blog often you will note that Gosh makes another one of my favorite products the giant sun powder! I am looking forward to trying some other things from the Gosh Line in the coming months and hoping that they are as amazing as m favorite products have been so far!

Please feel free to click here to read my other Gosh review !

Rimmel Stay Glossy Lip Gloss

As I was shopping today I stumbled upon Rimmel's new Stay Glossy lip gloss.  There were 5 shades which included an amazingly pigmented black. I really liked all 5 and may collect them as they all swatched really well!! Last year I spent almost $40 for a mini set of Kat Von D glosses that were not nearly pigmented and almost the same exact shades!

I know many of you say black isn't really wearable, but there is so much you can do with it! Mostly I use it to make other lip shades a little darker when you just want more richness and depth!

I think these glosses are great! Most of you know I have a love hate relationship with Rimmel as I find their products very hit or miss, but this one is a winner in my books!!

If you see them take a look, I think you may be pleasantly surprised!

Besame Cosmetics... I think I am in love!!!

I was so lucky when Besame Cosmetics  said they would send me a lippie to try! I can't even tell you how amazed I was when I opened the package to find one of the Voluptuous Lip Colour sets as well as 5 of the Classic Enchanting Lipsticks to try. I have been wanting to try these products ever since I saw them reviewed by Lisa Freemont Street on youtube! By the way if you are a vintage fan you MUST to subscribe to her!!

I have been trying a lot of products lately and only the best are making their way onto you so I am very exited to write this post as I am loving the line of products! Let me start with how I love this line on simply appearance alone. The lipsticks are some of the most beautiful things I have seen in a long time, no longer to you want to go to the powder room to touch up. These products make you want to re apply your lipstick at the table simply so people can see the elegance of the products. I'll include pics as a description just won't cut it in this case!

Next I want to talk about the product in general. First I was surprised to find these lip colours had a pleasant scent, almost floral and very subtle. So often lipsticks can have unpleasant scents so I was nicely surprised when I first applied the lipstick to find this scent (scent does not stay once on the lips, just noticeable when applying). Texture is rich, but is not sticky or heavy. These lipsticks are very pigmented, and a little goes a long, long way!

As for my favorite colour... I'm not sure I can pick one. The shades I was sent are all so diverse that they all serve different purposes! I think as vintage inspired products go I will choose Cherry Red, as it is such a wonderful red shade, this is followed closely by Noir Red as it is so deep and rich, reminding me of a classic movie starlet! Please check out Besame's website for a complete listing of colours!

A little info about the differences in the two products I was sent. The Voluptuous Lip Colour set includes a bullet style lipstick, lip liner and the cutest lip brush that I have ever seen all in one kit. The Classic Enchanting Lipstick is a petite lipstick with a modified bullet shape that allows you to use the lipstick as a liner as well. This lipstick is a smaller size (smaller then your pinkie finger) but is so pigmented that a little really does go along way!

Besame has just launched Cashmere Powder, which is beyond beautiful and I simply can't wait to try! This product is a luxury item that will just make you feel elegant to carry! There are refills which help to make this product more affordable overall as well as better environmentally.

Shades I tried Noir Red, Cherry Red, Gold Lame, Wild Orchid, Exotic Pink. In the Voluptuous line I was sent Rapture Rose.

Defective Marcelle Gloss Tube

How disappointed was I today to take out my Marcelle gloss and wonder why nothing was coming out of the tube! When I looked down I saw gloss pouring out of the other end of the tube all over me!

I love this gloss and am so sad, as well I have a big mess to clean up! I've only had a chance to use this gloss a couple of times since I bought it! I have never had this happen to me before, let me tell you what a mess it can make.

Anyone else have this happen to them?!

UPDATE: Just wanted to let you all know that Marcelle has kindly offered to replace the defective lip gloss! So nice to see a company that stands behind the quality of their product! It is becoming harder and harder to find companies like these. Thanks Marcelle!!

Cover Girl's Outlast Smoothwear All Day Lip Colour

I am always looking for a great red shade, and when I wear red I want it to stay where I put it. So I decided to try Cover Girl's Outlast Smoothwear  to see how it held up. ( I would give you the shade but as I will mention shades change a little too much in this line so it is already discontinued! )

First I want t say that I love the shade, the only downside is I find Cover Girl changes their shades a lot so it is hard to have a go to shade as when you go back it may be gone. This red was a great red for me, not too bright with a blue base that makes my pearly whites brighter!

Application wise, this one is pretty easy. I do find that keeping your lips slightly parted while the lip colour sets gives the best results, if you don't there is some times a dark line where your lips touched once dry. The top coat is very nice as well giving some great shine. I do wish however that Cover Girl did what Maybelline does by offering top coats as refills as you do through much more top coat then you do lip colour itself.

As for colour stay this one is a good product. Over the course of the day I did find the colour faded at the inner portion of my lips from continued eating and drinking, but over all something that most people would not notice. There were no messes on glasses

I did find that if you got too busy and didn't apply the top coat often enough the base started to get VERY dry and sometimes even peel. At this point you have no other choice to remove the colour and start again as trying to add colour over top only results in a mess that continues to peel and will no longer set as it should.

Over all I did like this product, as long as you do remember to keep on top of top coat applications. If you find it hard to remember then this one might not be for you, unless you only need your lips to looks perfected for a couple of hours.

Beauty Rush Lip Gloss Review (Victoria's Secret)

I recently went out and purchased several of Victoria's Secret (La Senza here in Canada) lip glosses. I had heard a lot of good things about them so I just had to try them out. I purchased 6 in various shades but I'm not going to focus on the colours as much as what I thought of the product itself. I really thought that I would be blown away by these glosses as I had heard such raves about them but really I think they are 'ok' glosses and not that exiting.

Now I must say I do really like some of the colours I purchased so I will use them but I won't be rushing out to buy more any time soon. First of all I found that they didn't apply all that well from the tube. Who wants to have to take a brush with them when they are on the go, but I will have to as from the tube this gloss ended up making a mess on my lips instead of a nice clean look. Part of this is because the gloss is quite thin which I know some of you may really like. For me the though this isn't a selling feature as I felt that it wore off too quickly resulting in more applications then I like to bother with. I am a fan of thicker gloss that sticks to the lips, I think it's just because I like the staying power of that type of gloss.

The scents are quite nice for the most part. I did find however that there were some colours I really liked, but had an odour that I just did not enjoy so I had to skip them all together. I really did like the one's I purchased however with melon scents as well as some mint which is always my favorite.

Overall if you are more of a lip balm type wearer who really likes a sheer gloss and doesn't mind applying several times a day then this one is for you, If you are however a MAC, or Obsessive Compulsive type gloss user then this one isn't for you!

I would really like to hear your feedback on this item so please leave your comments and let me know how you like this product!!

Rimmel Lasting FInish Intense Wear Lipstick Review

This week I found Rimmel lipsticks on sale for $4 so I couldn't help myself, I had to buy a few! I walked away with 3 shades, Airy Fairy, Birthday Suit and Azura. Two are a pink shade and the other is a nude... guess which one that is! lol These shades are from the Lasting Finish Intense Wear line, the only line of lipsticks that Rimmel currently sells here in Canada.

I really like all three for various reasons. Airy Fairy is a very nice subtle yet bright pink shade that is really nice for wearing during the day time for a subtle punch of colour. Birthday Suit is a great nude shade, not too pink or brown. And Azura is a brighter pink, great for wearing with a natural eye or as a great kick to an evening look. These shades go on great, are really creamy and have great colour without being too opaque.

The negatives are the smell and the longevity. The smell is kind of strange, but can be covered by using a gloss or something over top. When it comes to longevity, seeing as the name was Lasting Finish I was hoping for something special. Well this one lasts about as long as all the others which isn't bad, but I had hoped for a little more considering the name.

Overall I really like these lipsticks, some great colours for a very small price-tag!

Aquafina Lip Balm Review

I love lip balm, especially during the winter season when heaters can cause extreme dryness in the air. This week I saw something new to me while standing in a checkout line in a local store, Aquafina lip balm. Little did I know that Aquafina has a line of skin care products on the market. Well always wanting to try something new I picked them up right away.

This products came in a box of 4 lip balms for under $3. There was 4 different flavours included, mint, citrus, berry and. These balms contain jojoba oil, almond oil, and have a bee's wax base. I find this a much better base then petroleum as this is what many brands contain ( I won't name names ) who people claim are addictive as they really dry the lips in the long run.

Well the scents are all really nice, I am partial to mint but the others are great as the scent is not overwhelming and there is still a mild minty feeling to each balm. I've been wearing them for about a week now and I have no problem giving up my regular lip balm which is Burt's Bees for the Aquafina. As well Burt's sell for around $3.50 for one so 4 for under $3 is an amazing deal!

I think if you are lip balm lover like I am you should give Aquafina a try, they are a great deal and a great product as well!

Marcelle Aquatik Lip Collection Review

I am always on the lookout for new lip colour so when I recently saw Marcelle lip colour on sale while shopping at my local drugstore I decided to give it a try. I have never tried Marcelle before and I am a huge fan on Annabelle and seeing that they are the same company I decided to pick up a couple of products from their Aquatik summer collection.

The products I bought were the mango splash Vita-Lip Plumping Gloss and the Rouge Vitality Lipstick in Rose Divine. The gloss is a very pretty pink with a lot of multi-coloured mini glitters in it. The glitter is very fine so I didn't feel that it was overwhelming at all, but added a very nice shimmer especially over a lipstick. On it's own I felt that the colour didn't show up as much as I would have liked it to. As well I am partial to glosses that are sticky because I feel it makes it last longer, but this gloss was light and didn't have a sticky texture at all. I know that most people like that type of gloss so overall the formulation was good for what the average person wants. As for plumping this one did nothing for me. There wasn't even the tingle that you get from most plumping glosses. I don't know that this one will be my favorite gloss, but I will use it to add a shimmer to lipsticks and I really do like it overall.

Next on to the lipstick, which I am very exited about! I loved this product because it was a not too shiny colour with lots of staying power. The colour was a beautiful natural pink, the perfect natural colour for someone with my skin tone. It says that has a vitamin complex that helps to hydrate and plump the lips; again it didn't plump but it did leave my lips very soft at the end of the day. I will definitely be going out to buy a couple more of these before this collection is sold out and if all Marcelle lipsticks are this well formulated I will be buying more in the future.

Overall I really liked the colours as well as products from this collection. Go check it out before it is all gone!!

Gosh Cosmetics Review

I recently purchased a few items from Gosh cosmetics which is exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. Overall this company has great colour selection as well as product selection for a drugstore brand. The three products that I am specifically going to focus on today is the cool jam lip gloss, eyeliner pen and effect pigment.

I purchased the cool jam lip gloss in the blue colour which is really promising to make your teeth look whiter and does not give your lips a blue look. I really liked this gloss but for those of you who do not like sticky glosses this isn't the one for you. The texture is very similar to MAC's gloss and for me though who has chronically dry lips I found this one to be really hydrating and I personally don't mind sticky glosses as I feel they stay longer on my lips. As for the blue colour making your teeth look whiter well I'm not sure but it doesn't hurt!

Next is eyeliner pen which I purchased in black star. It has a shimmery effect through the black which I found quite nice for certain looks but cannot replace completely pure black as an eyeliner. The applicator is a small brush which I found quite easy to control for application and much nicer then the sponge tip applicators that several drugstore brands are now using. The colour didn't flake or smear and overall I found it to be a great liquid liner.

Finally is the effect pigment which I tried in a variety of colours. This one I wasn't that impressed with. When applied alone they really didn't give a strong effect but more of a wash of colour. I also tried it with mixing medium but still found the pigment to be somewhat streaky and still a softer colour which I really don't think was intent considering the colour selection they carry. This one I wouldn't try again unless they reformulated the product as I just get a much better result from other brands.

Overall I think that Gosh does a lot of things right and I am looking forward to trying more of their products in the future.

As always remember to subscribe to follow my blog and stay updated on reviews and tutorials. Its a great way to stay in touch and it's free! As well please comment and let me know what sorts of posts you would like to see in the future.

Sally Hansen Lip Inflation Plumping Treatment

I always get asked what my favorite gloss is and people always assume it will be MAC. Although I think MAC glosses are amazing and well worth their cost my favorite is actually Lip Inflation Plumping Treatment by Sally Hansen. Although I really don't find that it plumps, I absolutely love the shade Sheer Pink(the middle one in the pic) and love the minty quality, it's like pretty blistex! It leaves my lips so soft and isn't sticky at all! It is in my purse at all times and I wouldn't be without it!!

The only thing I wish they would change is the colour range, there isn't enough options for my personal taste although they do now have Lip Inflation's Color-Full which I have yet to try as it is a new product that I have seen online but not in my local stores as of yet.

If you are looking for a drug store brand to try and you like a minty feel give this one a try!
